Summary

The telephone number +48 (22) 307-1061, which is located in Poland, was found on Oct 18th by user Rahm after decoding ITA2 from "horn sounds" given by (303) 309-0004. The number initially transmitted horns itself. This horn was decoded into the #Bell Agent Code. Oct 24: number began accepting input. The correct input turned out to be found at the Bellwood_water_tower_drop. After this was input, the 303 and 202 numbers played a victory tone. Oct 30: Number goes down, plays various short messages. Nov 21: Poland number begins redirecting to agent system. Sometime between Jan 30 2013 17:00 UTC and January 31 17:00 UTC: Poland number becomes siren.

Recordings

Some initial recordings. Can likely replace with a smaller version from mwally's system once available.
Compressed Recording of Sound(3.14MB)
Full Quality Recording of Sound(34.7MB)

Kudos to ishootudie for grabbing the first recording.

Decoding

Again it's encoded in ITA2 (left msb).

Bell agent found

This is a current event. Sauceman was given a list of untried codes by Anonen, and the last code was 97BA16041 (Bellwood number) which originated from the Chicago drop. Ymgve asked how the code was entered:

  • <Ymgve> because you can't enter BA unless you have an extended DTMF pad
  • <sauceman> Ymgve: yeah, I used Adobe Audition to generate the DTMF for that 97BA16041 (Bellwood number)

Upon entering that code, changes immediately happened:

  • <sauceman> Ymgve: I got the Iridium recording - the call is being forwarded one
  • <sauceman> then European sounding ring, and this weird music
  • <sauceman> not like the ice cream kind, this one had voices and stuff in it

After that when 48 22 307 1061 is called it gives brief tones then disconnects. The other phone numbers have changed too.

http://dialer.otp22.com/2012-11-06%2023-12%20UTC%20-%20303-309-0004%20-%200.wav 303 number giving 'victory' sound.

Accepting Input

It "seems" like this number is accepting input. Around 2:40 in, the horns turn into some kind of modem-like signal that repeats three times. At this point, if the caller dials a number, there's some silence and then a different signal that doesn't happen when you don't enter anything. Compare these two audio recordings to understand it better: Without Input With Input (99286).

The same signal happened with all agent codes / random numbers we tried so far, so we supose it means wrong code. We are in the process of trying all known agent codes to see if we get a different signal.

Instructions on How to Help

If you want to help:

  1. Find a code from Agent Codes that was not tried yet;
  2. Call +48 22 307 1061
  3. Listen to the horns until ~2:40; that's when you get the modem-like tone (if you're not sure, listen to the recordings first to know what you're expecting)
  4. Type in the agent code (or anything else you'd like to try)
  5. Post below if you got wrong code or something else (bonus for those who record the call).

List of codes tried

Unless noted, every code here gives wrong code signal. On phone systems that take input in a similar way, the pound sign merely indicates to the system that the sequence is completely entered, a sequence ending in # is not distinct from one without and there is usually no need to note a terminal pound sign; this might be the case here as well.

Speculation

Here are some theories we have regarding what the message found on this number means, and what it wants us to do next:

  • Knowing that all of the horns were encoded in ITA2, we discussed the possibility of the ITA2 code for "BELL" being the agent code we need to enter to reactivate the system.
    • The "Bell" code itself (with left MSB) is 00101. If you put the "shift to figures" code before it, you would have 1101100101.
    • We tested out entering both variants both followed and preceded by a # on the 303, 709 and 202 numbers. Mwally tested out sending these codes to the Poland number in the 2 second window before it hangs up with no success.
    • Mwally assist us in calling the 303, 709, 202 and Poland numbers with the caller ID set as the Bell ITA2 code with shift. We did not try the shorter codes as mwally indicated anything less than 10 digits would likely not make it through in CID to the other end. No change noted.
    • To try just the "Bell" code as CID, mwally sent the ITA2 null code (0000) plus the BELL code (00101) as the CID to the 303,709, 202 and Poland numbers (trying both null first - 000000101 and second - 001010000)

  • BELL as spelled out using the letters on a phone keypad is 2355.
    • We tested this as a code (with both leading and trailing #) to the 303, 709, 202 and Poland numbers with no success.

  • "BEL" in 5-bit Baudot codes is represented by 11 (0x0B) when in figures mode.
    • We tested this as a code (with both leading and trailing #) to the 303, 709, 202 and Poland numbers with no success.

Message change on 30th October 2012

It was found at approx. 16:00 UTC that the number went started to transmit "Were sorry an application error has occurred, goodbye" message. http://dialer.otp22.com/2012-10-30%2016-40%20UTC%20-%2048-22-307-1061%20-%200.wav

At 20:00 UTC there was a new message saying 'concern'. http://dialer.otp22.com/2012-10-30%2019-46%20UTC%20-%2048-22-307-1061%20-%200.wav At the same time the 202 number and 303 number also made changes to their messages, saying 'two' and 'three' respectively.
